How to Find the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Body Type

How to Find the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Body Type

“Selecting a dress is more than just a fitting. It’s a process, a memory in the making.” It’s important that when choosing the wedding dress of your dreams, it must reflect your style and personality. But most importantly, you must feel beautiful! But just as other clothing like your veil looks better on others and vice versa, pay attention to what types of gowns can enhance your body shape. Never take the rules too seriously because all that matters is how you feel in the dress of your dreams. But here are Lucky Little Chapel’s tips and suggestions that could help guide you before you say yes to the dress!

1. Hourglass-shaped

If you got curves for days, show them off on your special day! Women with an hourglass-shaped body type look great with a mermaid, ball gown, and sheath-type dress. Accentuate your tiny waist and flattering curves with dresses that compliment your feminine body shape with your wedding wardrobe. Try staying away from boxy dresses and high necklines, as they take away your shape and can make you look disproportionately large.

2. Tall & Slender

For our tall and thin gals, you can look great in everything! We definitely recommend mermaid, sheath, and ball gown-type dresses. Fit and flare dresses compliment this body type, but try straying away from high necklines because it’ll draw the eye upward, therefore, creating more unwanted height.

3. Petite

If you’re a tiny bride, consider going with a dress that’s a sheath, A-line, wedding garter, or an empire waist dress. With these types of dresses, it creates the illusion of height which keeps the eye moving. Although all silhouettes will flatter a petite body shape, having a big ball gown or dress with lots of volume like ruffles or fabric will look overwhelming on your small frame.

4. Apple-shaped

If you’re more prominent in the chest or tummy area, embrace your apple shape by choosing A-line dresses, ball gowns, or an empire waist. Highlight your cleavage area and give the illusion of a smaller waist with these types of dresses.

5. Pear-shaped

Generally, if your hips are the widest part of your body then you got a pear shape. Women with pear-shaped bodies have a spectacular and defined waists, so it’s best to work with empire-waist, A-line, or mermaid-shaped gowns. The best thing about being pear-shaped is your options for necklines are unlimited! You could basically get away with any kind of neckline- sweetheart, square, boat neck, etc. Wedding veils are also great for the occasion!

6. Full figure

A full-figure woman has a favored bust and curvy hips. A-line, empire waist and a mermaid styles dress work best to create a slimming effect while still enhancing your natural curves. You might want to stay away from a slim sheath or a slinky bias-cut because they might accent any extra inches. Avoid spaghetti straps as well because they’ll provide the support you need.

Happy wedding dress hunting!
